Captain Jim Durham’s fishing charter businesses are some of the largest and best-known charter fishing guide services in the region. As a former B.A.S.S. fisherman, Captain Jim has been fishing and/or guiding for most of his adult life, fishing the Upper Cumberland Plateau Region 60 years since he was six years old. THE CUMBERLAND RIVER IN TENNESSEE
My Cumberland River guides are licensed, insured and are well trained in CPR & First Aid, with many years’ of experience per man on the Cumberland River! We have worked to be one of the largest and best-known guide services and we will work hard to deliver “big trophy fish”. You can count on the fact that your group will be treated with the utmost professional care and safety.
We offer trips on the Cumberland River year around for “world class” Striper in Tennessee – from the Kentucky border all the way down 60 miles (through Celina and Gainesboro) to the Cordell Hull dam (this is the Cordell Hull pool). CHECK OUT SOME PHOTOS OF THE BIG FISH WE CATCH! We also offer trips out of Carthage TN then further down towards Nashville in the Old Hickory pool. It is not uncommon to see 40 or even 50-pound Stripers pulled from the beautiful waters of the Cumberland River. This fishing is not for the faint of heart however! These big fish hit like freight trains, making long powerful runs in the constantly flowing waters of the river! The Stripers are much larger in the Cumberland River system then in any other fresh waters.
Per the State Wildlife Boards, there is an average of over 15 Stripers caught annually in excess of 50 pounds and 40-pound fish are not uncommon. The smallest fish we generally catch daily is over 3 feet long! These fish fight the current all day, making them much heavier and strong than lake fish.
Seeing the big predator Stripers hit is like watching a prehistoric moment! It is “KABAM” and the rod gets “ripped” down in 1/10th of a second!! Sheer adrenaline and pure excitement!
Yee Hii !!! Bam! Bam! Kapow! “Zing” – your rods will be bent with the reels singing!

Since its inception many years ago, of providing world class Striper fishing services on the Cumberland River, StriperFun clients have been staying at the Valley View Motel in Celina TN! The Valley View Motel is a local landmark and a piece of vintage Celina TN history! God is amazing in his creation! I am blessed to spend another day pursuing my passion of putting clients on big fish on our magnificent lakes of Cumberland and Dale Hollow and the Cumberland River! I give it all to God!
I am many times asked “What are the advantages to hiring a guide”? In essence, you hire a guide to utilize the guide’s many years of experience and lake knowledge, to learn new tactics and techniques to increase your chance of “landing the big one”.
